That's probably the most apropos thing I can say about the past two days. Not too much going on outside of just hanging out together as a family. And unfortunately, that means not a whole lot of pics.... there're only so many pics you can take inside your room.
Today after breakfast we did head out for awhile. We walked to Uni Centro with Jen (I'm going to stop calling her our friend from MN, because now she's more like a sister- we do almost everything together, including eating at the same table. She's the best!) and headed to Exito for some groceries and to see if we could find a pelota (ball) for Ally to play with and help pass the time while she's here. We also picked up a gift certificate for our representative Isabel (now that was an adventure, given my lack of Spanish-speaking skills) and then found a ball for Ally to play with and a small one that Will can play with too. They had a maize and blue colored football there too, but wanted way too much money for it (although it's hard to put a price on such things- they're essentially priceless). They also had a green and white one which they were trying to give away but couldn't. Huh. I guess it's the same in Colombia as in Michigan (sorry Dad- please don't cut me out of the will).
After Uni Centro we went to a store that we passed yesterday that was a "natural" store. Since we eat (somewhat) healthy at home, we thought we'd pop in there to see what was available. Answer: not much. It ended up being more like a GNC than a healthy, organic type store. Nuts. I was really looking for some organic rice cakes and some carob covered raisins. Instead I had to settle for chocolate chip cookies and Quaker chocolate chip bars from the regular store. What a disappointment.
We headed back to the hotel, and then the rain started again. We made it through lunch, and afterward I worked while Beck took Ally to Jaques (the French pastry place). Ally really needs some one on one time with us, so we're going to try to do that more before I leave Sunday. Beck said they had a really good time together, and Ally said that she's actually having a good time. So that's a good sign that Ally is hanging in there. We'll see where she is in 2 or 3 weeks, but for now she's doing well. Fortunately Grammy, Mimi, and Bubba are heading here next week. That'll make her super happy!
Before dinner the weather broke and we took about an hour walk. Ally slept most of the way, and Will just hung out, taking in all the sights. We went back for dinner, ate, then had bath time. Now the kids are in bed. All in all, nothing special. But where else and through what other process would you be able to spend this much time together? You just can't beat it!!
Love to all-
Scott, Beck, Ally, and Will
Hi Becky and family! I just want to let you know how much I am enjoying your blog. You have been in my thoughts and prayers and I am praying for a safe and heathy return.
ReplyDeleteOur son Rob was married on March 20 to a beautiful young woman from Columbia. She is the best thing that has ever happened to him and a joyful addition to our family. Her entire family is amazing and so much fun! After the wedding, my mom (88 years old) said, "After seeing Diana's family I think the Dutch people are too stiff!" How true!
I know that Grandma Helen will be there soon!
Be safe!

Hey you guys, just letting you know that I am reading all your posts and loving them! So glad you get this "cocooning" time to bond with Will and be a family unit, mostly detached from life back here. I know it has it's strains and demands, but, you will look back on this time and have many fond memories. Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteHugs and love, Melody and the Tues. morning ladies.
