Giving Thanks

Today was a good day. We didn't do much, but it was still a good day. I started the day (after Max's bottle of course) with an amazing email from my amazing husband. He challenged me to give thanks in all circumstances and to look for all my many blessings. So that's what I tried to do today and it really helped to change my attitude. So here are some of the things that I am thankful for:

An amazing big sister who wants to be so helpful and was proud to push her baby brother in the stroller. My Ally is so strong and such a blessing to me in so many ways. She was my first baby and will always hold a special place in my heart. She brings joy and laughter to my life and I can't imagine a life without her. And for Max, who is such a sweet boy. His smile is contagious and his calm manner is a constant throughout the day. How did I get so blessed by this child? My love for him grows daily and I am thankful for this time together in his birth country.

Good friends to share this journey with. This is Alex, John and Sonia's son, swinging with Ally at the park today. John and Sonia have been great to me while Scott and Will are gone...letting me tag along with them to parks and to the market. We also share a table for all the meals, and it's great to have some adult conversation. On a side note, at the park today, a bird pooped on Sonia's head. We were all laughing hysterically and she was explaining how her mother thought this was good luck, and about two seconds later, their cell phone rang and it was Isabel saying that the judge had approved their case. So now, I'm looking for birds to poop on my head! :)

A good ice cream cone to brighten anyone's day. Ally was feeling a little down this afternoon...really missing Scott and Will. So, we decided to venture to Mimos, a local ice cream joint and play land to lift the spirits...it seemed to work!

But most of all, I am thankful for my God, who is able to move mountains and provides peace in all circumstances, for my family, who supports me unconditionally and for all of you, for your prayers and support during our time here. Colombia has blessed us with three wonderful children (Will, I'm so thankful for you too) and I am so thankful for this wonderful country!

With love and a thankful heart,

Becky

  2. Proud of you, Becky! Yah, head to La Candeleria and feed some pigeons! Not a bad idea, Scott! :)

Your trust and gratitude in God is encouraging to me...remembering clearly those days of longing to be home, but, also, finding joy and contentment in where God had me!

I loved reading Psalm 121 while I looked out our window at the mountains..."I lift up my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and earth..." Found great comfort in that!

You are doing great friend! Amazing, it's been 2 years for us, and to ponder on that time, it's so rich! I know you are experiencing God in ways you never have before...you will treasure this time forever as hard as it is!

Keep finding joy in the simple things of your day! :) Skype anytime! K

  4. Hi Becky,
You are "strong and courageous" and a beacon of God's love here and in Columbia! I am continuing to pray for you daily. May you have peace and assurance today that God will take care of each of you(near and far!) and fill your every need. So eager to see you in Michigan! Love you, Dawn

  5. Wishing I would have sent you pigeon poop for your birthday! Max is adorable. He is only 11 days younger than Eila! They will have to meet when you return. Praying that it will be very soon!

(As a side note, Erin knows Sonia's dad!)
